Barras Olympians return from Athens

[Aug 30, 2004] Australia welcomes home our Olympians and the Barracudas are proud to have five of their own club members returning after a greulling two weeks of Water Polo competition in Athens.

The women's Australian team finished fourth overall in the competition and was lead by our very own Kate Gynther who was the team's top scorer notching 7 goals to her name. Despite just being shy of the medals, both Kate and fellow teammate and Barracuda, Melissa Rippon can hold their heads high surprising many all over the world. A highlight for the team was their round game victory over Italy who went on to win the Gold.

The Australian mens team finished the Olympic tournament in 9th position. The young Australian team featuring Barracudas representatives Alex Osadchuk, Toby Jenkins and Raf Sterk played valiently against some of the toughest water polo nations in the world. The boys now focus on kicking back and enjoying themselves before the start of next season.
