[Sept 11, 2005] Barracudas were big winners at the Queensland Water Polo 2nd Annual Awards Gala held Saturday September 10th. The club walked away with the prestigious title of Club of the Year in Queensland. Helping the judging panel to make their decision was the fact that the club grew 25% last season and had numerous successes in both the Junior and Senior competitions. Both Male and Female Player of the year were also awarded to Barracudas players namely Toby Jenkins and Kate Gynther respectively. Jenkins beat out two other Barracudas nominees for Male Athlete of the Year; fellow Olympians Raf Sterk and Alexsandr Osadchuk. Gythner beat out Barracudas teammate and fellow Olympian Melissa Rippon and National team member Amy Hetzel of the Breakers.
The awards didn't end there for the Barras - Daniel Marsden was named Coach of the Year after guiding the Barracudas Men's National League team to the state's first Senior mens title, winning the 2004 National League title and Nicola Johnson was named Official of the Year. Barracudas nominees Rhys Howden, Cassie Grayson, Caitlin Field, Kristina Smith and Sue Smith just missed out on the awards in their respective categories but are to be commended for their nominations.
