Gynther named Best Aussie at World League

 

[Sept 14] Kate Gynther has made a name for herself on the International scene this past winter with International coaches sitting up and taking notice of the sharp shooter. As Australia's top scorer first at World Champs, the offensive gun lead the Australian team to a Bronze medal finish (and $30,000USD prize money) at the World League Super Finals held in Kirishi, Russia. The Aussie team defeated newly crowned World Champs, Hungary 6 - 4 in the Bronze medal match. Greece took home top spot winning the gold and defeating Russia 13 - 10. Gynther was unstoppable in the first three matches and managed to notch goals in all four games finishing the Finals Series with 15 goals. Overall in the World League competition which includes games played earlier in the international season in the US, Kate ended up 3rd on the top scorers list notching an impressive 28 goals over the whole World League series - a remarkable achievement. .

National Team coach Greg McFadden named Gynther as his top player from the World League tournament. Fellow Barracuda teammate Melissa Rippon was named Australia's second best player with a tie for third best between goalkeeper Alicia McCormack (Cronulla Sharks) and centre forward Nikita Cuffe (Balmain Tigers).
