[Aug 16, 2006] The Queensland contingent of the Australian World Cup Championship team arrived last night at Brisbane International Airport. There to greet them was friends, family and supporters along with the media. Barracudas Mel Rippon and Katie Gynther as well as Breakers Suzie Frazer and Bronwyn Smith were thrilled to see the support of so many there to honour their achievements following their overseas campaign and successes. Still glowing after winning the Gold Medal at the World Cup, the girls still felt the magnitude of their achievement had not yet sunk in. "We are happy to be home" said Australian captain Mel Rippon which perhaps had more to do with wanting to eat some good home cooked meals after 6 weeks on tour. The girls shared one of the secrets of their World Cup pre-game routine which included a Chinese snack before games of McDonalds provided by tournament organisers! Thanks to all who came out to support them. The girls now enjoy a two week break from training before getting back in the pool to begin preparations for next season.
