BARRACUDAS WOMEN WIN AWPI AWARDS AND NAMED TO AUS SQUADS
(May 18, 09) Following the completion of the NWPL Finals Series in Sydney and the inaugural AWPI Hall of Fame dinner held at the same time, a number of Barracudas players have been given the top nod. Firstly at the AWPI Awards Function Barracudas Kate Gynther and Jamie Lee Lewis were recognised. Kate, an Aussie Stinger and Olympic bronze medallist Kate Gynther was named the athlete of the year. Gynther (26), is one of the world’s leading shooters amassing a cupboard full of medals at the elite level, including a World Cup gold from 2006. Hearing-impaired Barracuda Jamie Lee Lewis, daughter of rugby league great Wally Lewis, was named player of the year with a disability for her outstanding accomplishments in the sport.
Secondly, AWPI announced a series of women's squads including the Senior AIS Training Squad, the U18 Squad and U20 Junior Squad. An amazing 11 Barracudas players were amongst those earning spots Specifically:
