Barracudas Fashion Parade Round Up

INAUGURAL BARRACUDAS FASHION PARADE A HUGE SUCCESS

(May, 2010) On Saturday the 8th May 2010 at Yeronga Pool the Inaugural Barracudas Fashion Parade and High Tea was staged. What a success it was both financially, to help fund in part the U16 Girls and Boys trip to Hobart, and socially as a huge social event in the 2009/2010 Barras Water polo season. Now we have shown that the Barracudas is the not only the strongest Brisbane Club in the water, it is outside the pool also!

We were blessed with a great day-the beautiful Yeronga Swimming Complex sparkled and was a fabulous backdrop for our Parade. The atmosphere buzzed from the day before in preparation, to when the nervous Barras models arrived, to the guests seeing their complimentary glass of bubbly, to the wonderful parade, to the many purchases and raffle draws and to the clean up after.

Gorgeous table settings pool side Delicious homemade tea treats were devoured by all. Guests each received a beautifully etched champagne flute or tumbler

Early in the afternoon Clay kept all informed with regular score results over the PA of the Women’s National League final in Sydney. Shel would not allow the parade to begin until the final score was announced and what a cheer we got with the final result-our Wonderful Barras girls winning their second national league crown in a row. This certainly helped the afternoon’s vibe.

Each table had fabulous homemade food (thanks mums) to eat throughout the afternoon and a great table decoration created by our Barras photographer Vince showcasing action photos of our Barras Junior games and our Sponsors. On came the “home grown” models-17 players and mothers- all amateurs - who strutted their stuff and showed they are proud Barras supporters as they paraded around the concourse of the pool. They were very capably organized by Caroline outside and Martel, Clea, Anne, and Cathy inside the change rooms; and supported and encouraged by our fabulous Compere, Shel to the great music played by our “own” DJ, Clay.

All those present will recall the “sunnies” and the flexing of our Club Captain and his need to come out an extra time in his favourite outfit (togs) at the finale. Ash and Vince captured the action for the club archives.

Fashions were provided by VICI, Funky trunks, Always Habit, Hoé Boutique, Michael Innis, Mona Lisas @ West End, Naudic resort wear and Intimo outerwear .

A rare sight - our Barracudas boys models looking dapper. Club Captain Rhys Howden tries his hand at modelling. Flexing was enjoyed by all present particularly the ladies... DJ Clay keeps everyone entertained

Many stalls showcased Naudic, Intimo, Mona Lisas @ West End, iHeart Jewellery, Jewels by Jill Loof, and the fabulous unique Barras rings made by our creative Junior players, Holly and Ellie. There was plenty of time for everyone to browse around and buy Mothers Day gifts or just splurge on themselves. Throughout the afternoon, there were many great raffle draws including the very generous donation of a VICI towel “lucky chair” draw for each of the 24 tables. Show bags with lots of giveaways and vouchers helped to carry the complimentary etched new release Barras glass home.

In all a great Success-A huge thanks to the many player and parent helpers-too numerous to mention here-an event like this does not succeed without a huge number of helpers.Who knows there may be one in 2011-if so, it will be an event not to miss!!!!!!!
