Barracudas National League
The Barracudas Water Polo Club has two licences and fields a Women's and Men's team in the Australian National Water Polo League (NWPL) annually called the Brisbane Barracudas. This level of competition is the club's high performance program and an integral part of the club's elite player pathway from junior through to senior. The Barracudas have produced some of the country's top elite players from youngsters in the Junior ranks and is the only Club in Queensland to offer players this pathway. Barracudas are foundation members of the NWPL with the men competing since 1990 in the league's year of inception much like our women who started in the first year of women's national league in 2004.
Barracudas National League History
In 2004, the Barracudas men had a historic win, taking home the NL trophy and national title after defeating Fremantle in the Grand Final (2004 championship team pictured left bottom). The win marked the first time ever that a Queensland team has won a Senior National competition in the sport.
The Barracudas Women's team joined in 2004, the first year that women were introduced to the competition and have made the Final Series each of those years and become one of major forces on the league over the years. The women have been part of the Elimination Finals every year since the beginning of the competition (one of only four teams to achieve this statistic) finishing in the top 6 with the Bronze medal in 2005 and 2008 and Silver in 2007. In 2009, the team made history by becoming the first Queensland women's team to bring home a National League title (pictured left top). In 2010 the Barracudas women asserted themselves as the team to beat in the nation winning their second title in as many years and becoming only the second team in the women's competition to notch back to back titles. 2011, the Barracudas Women created National Leaue History becoming the only team to ever win three consecutive titles and firming their position as the top senior women's program in the nation.
