Moran to play 200th NWPL Match vs UWA
(Feb 18,2012) This Sunday morning at Musgrave the Barracudas National League teams face off against the UWA Torpedoes in their second-up clash. The match will be a major milestone and highlight for Barracudas stalwart, Jane Moran, set to play her 200th NWPL game. In her 9th consecutive season with the team, Moran will become Brisbane’s first ever female to reach the milestone and only the second club member male or female to reach the mark. Jane will be only 2 games shy of overtaking her coach Fabio Pavanello as the most capped Barracudas National League player of all time. Jane said the occasion was a wonderful achievement and admitted that it was great to be able to bring it up for such a great club.
“I definitely do see this as an important game,” Moran said. “I had a look at the statistics and I will become only the second ever player to reach 200 games in the women’s NWPL competition. Obviously, the game itself is important as we look to build on our good start to the year, but I think it’s going to be a pretty big deal for the Barracudas.”
The 26-year-old current Australian National Team star is already the second most capped female behind Fremantle’s Sharon Wheelock, and is second only to Stingers’ teammate Gemma Beadsworth in the all-time women's goal scoring list. Jane has been with the Barracudas since the tender age of 15 after starting her career playing for her high school, Stuartholme. Moran will lead her Barras team to the water at 10am this Sunday followed by the men's game at 11:30am. Come cheer our teams and Jane on!

King’s girl is a star - Jamie Lee Lewis named Australian Deaf Sports Female Athlete of the Year
(Source Sunday Telegraph - Feb 12, 2012) JAMIE-LEE Lewis, the water polo playing daughter of rugby league legend Wally, has been named the 2011 Australian Deaf Sports Female Athlete of the Year. Jamie-Lee, a three-time national water polo league premiership winner for the Brisbane Barracudas and the first deaf person to be selected to represent Australia in water polo, said she was very humbled by the honour. "While I was very surprised, I was also very happy," Lewis said. "It is a huge honour and when I told some of my teammates they were so happy for me. "As for my parents, well, I know they are proud of me. I have always had a saying, 'we know we are deaf, but we can try to achieve anything'." Lewis bounced back from shoulder surgery last year to help the Barracudas to their third straight title and is slowly returning to her best form. "My motto is to never, never, never give up," she said. Read more about Jamie Lee on Water Polo Australia's website.
Way to go Jamie Lee - you are an inspiration to all involved in our sport, your teammates and our club!
