Blessed with top coaches at all levels, the Barracudas are unique and over the club’s existence this player pathway has produced some of the nation’s and world’s finest players.

Junior Program

The Junior skills program encompasses 10 to 17 year olds and aims to further develop and refine players’ skills. Teams in each age group (U12 to U18) will be entered into the BWPI competition. The program aims to include and provide an enjoyable season to players of all skill levels and abilities within the capacity of the clubs resources. Junior players will have the option to play up in an older age group where their skill level and ability is sufficient. All Barras registered players are eligible for additional representative opportunities such as representing Barras at Club Nationals (14 & under and 16 & Under) each year, or representing Queensland at those age groups as well as 18 & Under. The program provides a player pathway to senior elite and representative levels as well as a platform for players to enjoy the sport at a more social level.

Senior Program

The senior program aims to provide an avenue for senior athletes to continue to play and enjoy the sport as well as a development competition for talented juniors. It is recommended that juniors in the U18 division who are striving for state or national team selection also play in the senior competition.

National League

The National League is the club’s elite program that works with the top senior players and fields a Men’s and Women’s team to compete Australian National Water Polo League (NWPL) – the highest level of domestic water polo competition in the country. Barracudas are one of twelve clubs who hold a licence to compete in this competition.  The National League program includes an intense training and playing schedule over a period of 8 months starting in September and concluding in May each year. Entry to the program is by invitation and the National League coaches keep a watchful eye on the Club’s Junior ranks to target talented and dedicated players. If you are a rising young talent in the club, don’t be shy to let your coach know of your dreams to represent at the highest level so we can advise you of the best pathway for you. Read our National League page for more information.
